This product I have been using for a long time. When I first started growing my natural hair back, this product was apart of the products that I used. I like it so much that I use it with every wash but this time I decided to do a pre poo with it after I trimmed my ends for the first time in decades.
I watched a YouTube video on how to trim your own ends which I posted a link to in a previous post and I simply followed those instructions. I trimmed off as much as I could tolerate and I most certainly did not cut my hair off like they do at these shops when you pay to get your ends trimmed. I took off 90% of the damage. Maybe even more, which made me think, my ends have been crunchy and dry for years and I never really take the time to deal with them. Taming them went well, trimming was better, but what else do I need to do.
I realized I needed to do two things before I dye my hair. Start doing pre-poo’s which I take the best conditioner I have and apply it to my hair the day before and let it sit over night. Rinse it out and shampoo with my favorite shampoo at the moment. Two. I need to do some hot oil treatments with avocado and argan oil along with my other favorites. I could actually do the hot oil treatment with my oil blend. I ordered some more avocado oil and some argan for my hair care. These two steps along with keeping the ends soft and trimmed when needed will make my hair and yours healthier and for those who are just starting their natural hair journey, if your ends become dry and rough feeling, you do not have to do the big chop. You just need to add a few steps to your hair routine.
I decided to pre-poo with something inexpensive of course, just to see if it would make any difference in how the hair feels after I was done with washing, and drying it. I have been blow drying my hair once every 3 weeks. I used Cantu Shea Butter for Natural Hair Deep Treatment Masque. It can be used as a leave in conditioner or rinsed out. I am using it as both. It smells great to me but if you don’t like your hair to have much of a scent, don’t buy this product. You will either love the way it smells like I do, or hate it. It has a very fruity cocktail smell to it but makes my hair soft and adds moisture and shine. I absolutely love this product and will continue to use it as long as it is available to me. You can find this product on Amazon as well and in some beauty supply stores. It is worth a try but remember that it has a rather loud but fruity smell that dies down over time. I love the results of this product and a hot oil treatment. My hair is shiny and moist but not greasy or weighed down.
The third and finally product is also for maintenance and is paraben and sulfate free. It is a water based product as well. I use this every time I wash my hair or when I change hair styles. It adds moisture and makes my hair soft. It also helps detangle my hair. It is very lightweight and does not cause build up.
The third and final product is a leave in conditioner. EDEN Bodyworks Coconut Shea Refresh and Renew Leave in Conditioner is the third and final product you should give a try. It does exactly that. It refreshes and renews your hair. The less products I use, the better my hair does and the less often I have to wash it. I bought this conditioner almost 9 months ago and it is almost finally gone. It is supposed to be used daily but we wear a lot of protective hair styles and I use this in between. I don’t blow dry my hair often but when I do, I make sure I use this conditioner and some Avocado or Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Leaves my hair looking and feeling great and never greasy or oily.
EDEN Bodyworks has a great product line for your hair whether you are all natural like me, or your hair is permed. The Coconut Shea line is what I use in the Spring and Summer and I am going to start using the Peppermint Tea Tree line up next. You can mix and match or just stick to a specific kind. You can order this product in a set or by itself. I also use the EDEN Bodyworks Coconut Shea Hair Masque Treatment which is a 15 minute deep conditioner that works excellent and smells even better. You can find this product and most of the other products on this site at Amazon if you can’t find them at your local beauty supply store.
My hair is growing and in my next few post, I will be listing what I use to help it grow and remain healthy. I will also be doing other product reviews as I experiment with what is going to benefit my hair the most. EDEN makes good products that I like but so does Jane Carter and what about Elucence? These are some of the products I found and will write about in the future. If I am not doing my hair, I am doing my daughters’. I try to use kids products on her hair which is also growing and we both stretch our hair. Maybe that helps it grow. We keep our hair braided for the most part and avoid heavy products and heat. I wash my hair once a month unless it is necessary to wash it more. I am trying every three weeks for me and every two weeks for her. So far, so good. And my ends have not been trimmed yet.
The African American Trades & Goods received its first goods this month. We have been busy spreading the word locally and building a customer base. I invested some money in the oils that I wanted to blend with great success. I wasn’t able to make a whole lot of oil but I was able to make enough for me and my family and have some leftover. I love making the oil blends. My first client was Tom Wilson, my husband and the Founder of African American Trades & Goods. I made him a special blend of oils to help relieve an itchy and dry scalp from eczema. I also made a massage oil for us which relieves stress and a blend of oils for my hair and scalp. I bought some essential oils and carrier oils. Some of the cheaper brands of essential oils did not smell like they should and I lost about $14 at the most. All the other oils that I bought worked out well and I have blended different types which I intend on selling as soon as we get a logo and some labels unless it’s by request.
This website is still undergoing changes. I haven’t been posting as often because I have been busy trying to figure out what direction I want this website to go in. I was raising Dystonia Awareness when I started but now I am not even sure if I have it. Seeing a Movement Disorder Specialist was my goal but learning to live with whatever I have and being able to function on an everyday basis became more important than appointments. Once I got the papers for my medical marijuana license, I started eliminating medication that I either was tired of taking, wasn’t working, or caused some form of dependence. I have went from 15 or more pills a day to 3 or 4 a day over the course of the last six months. I am starting to stray away from Pepsi altogether but I have started drinking iced coffee from Tim Hortons, water when it is purified, and more tea.
I have purchased two vape pens. One for nicotine because I have grown tired of Lex 12 Nappa Night Cigars and Lex 12 Cigars period. In fact, I am tired of all the cigars I normally smoke including those Black & Mild’s I have been smoking since high school and can no longer smoke. They make me develop a chronic cough. I have not smoked one in quite some time. I have a Tru Blu vape pen for now and I like it but, they don’t make the type of flavors I like. I also was able to find a different type of Al Capone Cigar which I have fell in love with. Al Capone filtered Jamaican Blaze Cigars. I will be transitioning to them next month. They have a great flavor that pairs well with my vape pens and medical marijuana. I had to learn how to roll up all over again. I no longer use Swishers. I use tobacco less, vegan, CBD, GMO free wraps by High Hemp. They come in quite a few flavors or you can get the plain kind. I get them according to what I am smoking on that day.
My compression stockings are in the drawer and I haven’t worn them in over a week. All that swelling and pain for all that time was from a very simple problem that the doctors never considered but I did. What if the swelling is coming from wearing the wrong shoes? I mean literally. Nothing more. Nothing less. No need to have any testing done which makes less trips to the doctor. Not one doctor that I am seeing considered that. Not one doctor asked me what type of shoes do I wear when I am at home. Instead, they switched my blood pressure medication to one that acts as a water pill and a blood pressure all at once. Lets just say that there is no way in the world I was going to keep taking a medication that makes me have to go to the bathroom that many times in a few hours unless it is absolutely necessary. So I stopped taking the water pills and put me some shoes on. What swelling?
My ankles stopped swelling up after I put on the most comfortable shoes that I have and limited the amount of time I spent in house shoes. I was walking around the house in shower or boat shoes. The kind of shoes that you can get wet, take off, and drain the water out by rolling the shoes up into their selves. They have drainage holes and are worn like socks with a rubber bottom. I walked all over in those shoes for at least eight months. One day after the swelling had finally went down, I put on some LeBron James Basketball shoes and was in bliss and still am. How comfortable basketball shoes are is amazing. I don’t know how other people feel about them but they have always got me threw a day in comfort. I have on some brand new old LeBron James shoes in the daytime and I put on the house shoes in the evening. Oh what a relief this was. I am going to wear these shoes until I tear them up. By that time, I should be able to afford some more. I also found that Sperry shoes and baseball shoes also work. I still need to wear the in lays with them but not the compression stockings.
The second product I recommend you should try will make some women stop perming their hair and try going all natural. Or not. It is for all hair types including extensions, wigs, and permed. I used this product on a Barbie head because the hair was tangled. Somebody told me to use fabric softener and water in a squirt bottle to untangle/detangle the hair but I hadn’t purchased any yet and was looking around the house for something to try on synthetic hair or as we like to call it, doll hair. This product works similar to a wig spray we used to detangle our extensions with. It is such an old product, you would think it would be harder to find or discontinued like some of the others products we like.
The Original Mane & Tail Detangler by Straight Arrow is the second product you should give a try if you have difficulty combing your hair. This product works excellent on adults and kids and is very inexpensive. I know some people would say why still use it? There are newer products on the market now. Why not? I still have the same bottle of it and it still works excellent. The Mane & Tail Leave in Conditioner by Straight Arrow is what we used in high school to make our hair lay down when we all had perms and wore our hair in wraps. The detangler that usually comes in a 12 oz. size could last you at least a year or maybe even more.
The first ingredient in this product is water which is something I look for in all hair products I use. For me, this is a plus and the fact that it comes in a spray bottle makes it easier for me to use. If you prefer not to let the smell of your hair take over like a perfume, this product is for you as it barely has a scent. You can use an oil with some scent and use this to keep it detangled. It has the consistency of a water and does not cause build up in your hair like other products might which is why I still use it on my hair every now and then to make it comb through with no problems.
You can find this product easily online. I found some in a local store but a lot of Beauty Supply stores stopped selling it. This could be a local problem, or it just isn’t available like it used to be. By request I tried this on her hair and she had no problems. I really only used it on her ends because as we all know, they are the hardest part to comb especially if you don’t trim yours like me. I don’t trim hers ends either. I like to stretch my hair with braids in different styles or curls. This is where the first product comes in at. Styling. This product is for maintenance.
I don’t use these products every single day nor all the time. They are products that were effective on my hair and that I keep in the house in case if I need them. None of them are overly expensive but they do cost more than some of the products you find in the local beauty supply store. All three of these products make a noticeable improvement to my hair and scalp and they all make your hair soft and easy to comb. I fortunately do not have to detangle anymore after switching from some of the products I was using when I first started growing my hair which was a year and 6 months ago almost to this date. I had tons of products that simply didn’t do anything good or were bad for my hair. Some made my hair look terrible. I began with Cantu products at first and I still use a product made by that company, but not the whole line of products anymore. I looked for things that gave your hair and scalp moisture and that were water based first and then moved on from there. I also wanted products that were as close to natural as I could get.
This first product is Eco Natural Cocktail Super Fruit Curl Complex Smoothing and Moisture Recovery Curl & Style Crème. It is exactly what the description says and is a pleasure to use. It gives you some hold but not to the point of causing damage or breakage and actually adds moisture to your hair. You can actually comb your hair and change the style without even washing your hair which means you can use this for hold and not worry about combing your hair out to re braid because it holds firmly the more that you apply. For a lighter hold, you simply just use less of this product. This worked great for my edges, braids, braid outs, twist, and bantu knots. It is some what like a gel but much more creamy. I use it on a regular basis for my hair particularly on my edges and the ends of my hair. If it can hold my ends together without me having to use rubber bands, than it should work on most hair types. Best of all is the smell. It smells like fruit.
The other two products will be featured on this website during the week. The construction of this site is going well. I have added and removed some things to make it look and feel more neat. My hair is growing healthy for a change and this product allows me to play with various looks and styles. I am finally able to get my hair into a ponytail that sits in the top. A high pony except there are no extensions or anything of that nature in it. The reason why I am doing this in 3 parts is so the site has fresh content daily especially during the week. The repetitive featured image problem that I was having and the bad photo problem should be resolved. Even though I am not a photographer, I still want the pictures to make people more interested in giving the products a try on their hair. Meanwhile, I am gathering the materials to make my own hair and scalp oils. I like aromatherapy and I also like essential oils.
The doctor told me to use rice in a sock for heat compressions on my ankles. That sounds smart. The swelling has almost completely gone from me just getting some rest but the left over pain is hard to deal with. I also have to limit my salt and switch blood pressure meds to one that is both a water pill and a blood pressure medication. I need compression stockings as well. She ordered X-rays because the pain is mainly in the ankle bones and they should not be so tender to the touch. I am really glad I went to see her even though she is allergic to smoke and was just recovering from an asthma attack which kept her from working for 4 days. I didn’t know her allergies were that bad so I smoked before I went to see her and she was suffering. Like she was in a room full of smoke but nobody was smoking. I made a joke about it but it really wasn’t funny at all. I can’t really vape or smoke before I go see her because watching her cough like that reminded me of my perfume allergy.
The whole bed rest thing is not fully necessary. I need to limit my activity’s if I notice the swelling coming back. My ankle was swollen back up just from going to the appointment in the first place. I was able to get the boots on but it was hard. Luckily these boots are comfortable. It is a lot of snow expected throughout the week. I need to set up all the test that she wants me to have done. She is a pretty good doctor and so far I like going to see her and it is not that far from my house like some of the other doctors I go to.
I have been catching up on Altered Carbon. I decided not to binge watch it. I kept falling asleep on the talking parts and missing all the action. I have made it half way through the season but my daughters’ father won’t let me watch them without him so I would have watched more. It was getting really good. I haven’t been able to play the game because he is still playing Nioh which is just simply to hard for us to play. Me and my daughter tried to take turns from the beginning but we couldn’t get out the building where you start at. It took him two days just to beat one boss.
Our hair is done for now. I will re braid my hair ASAP and put some oil on my hair and scalp. It will be dry in a few days. I have just been adding a little oil to all the dry looking areas. I need to oil my entire scalp next time. It doesn’t look dingy for now which means the plan worked and so did the products I use. My daughter needs Moisturizer every day no matter what I use on her hair. I just re braided hers. Now it looks dry again. Maybe I need a different product. We will see. All it needs is to be moisturized and combed daily since she has that high pony still. She doesn’t like me to comb her hair but her hair dresser is busy and the other one moved. So I have been doing her hair since then.
This vape pen is perfect for me. Of course I got a cheaper one since it was my first time vaping. He says I spent too much only because he don’t vape. The dispensary had old stuff the first time and it was kinda dry. The next time they had better quality. We were running through it because it wasn’t that potent in the first place. That may be why they had it on sale. I will find out when they are getting some more in that is fresh and see if it works better and taste like it is supposed to. Using the pen right now to try to loosen the muscles and dull some of the pain, plus I am doing the stairs. I needed to do some ankle stretches before I got started. I didn’t do too many because I didn’t want to make things worse. I am feeling better today and I slept well. Time for breakfast.
When you use light products in your natural hair, it doesn’t get dirty as fast. Want you want to do if you are growing your hair like me is seal in moisture especially during the Winter. I seal moisture in from using different kinds of oils. Nothing to heavy. I have posted about them here before.
This is one off my favorite products to just rub on from root to tip if your hair starts to look dry and it is also great for blow outs.
I use this mixed with some more oils when I first was my hair. It smells great and doesn’t really need to be used on an everyday basis. It comes in a rather small bottle but a little goes a long way. I haven’t tried it it my daughters’ hair yet because I used Olive Oil mixed with other oils in her hair.
I oiled hair scalp and hair and redid the high pony which I am so tired of but looks really cute on her. It’s the fact that she doesn’t like to get her hair combed. She never did but she can take her own braids out now which saves me time. To re braid her hair, I used the products below.
It came out well but her hair is really thick. It’s just as thick as mine so it is harder to comb. Once you get all the oils in it, it is more manageable. If you you have dry hair or scalp, I recommend giving this product and the ones in the other picture a try. Makes your hair shine and look and feel healthy.
